A RUET first-year student died by drowning while attempting to recover a mobile phone which fell into a pond during taking a selfie in RUET campus on Thursday noon.
The victim was identified as Mohiuddin Taj (23) son of Enamul Haque of Koyra village under Patnitola upazila of Naogaon district. He was a first-year student of the 15th batch of the department of Electronics and Electronics Engineer. He used to reside at room Number-418 of Ziaur Rahman Hall of RUET campus.
SM Masud Parvez, Officer-in-charge of Motihar Police station informed, the mobile phone of Taj fell in the water of the pond while he was taking selfies beside the pond. He went inside the water of the pond to recover the phone but failing to get that he came out of water. But, after a while, he again went into the water of the pond and got drowned in deep water.
He further said, during drowning in water, three fishermen were catching fish in the pond who rescued Taj and took him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital through the ambulance where the attending doctors declared him dead. Professor Faruk Hossain, Chairman of the department of EEE informed, while taking selfies, the mobile phone of Taj fell into the water of the pond and he drowned while trying to recover the phone.
Dr. Rabiul Islam, Student Welfare Director of RUET informed, Taj died by drowning in water of the pond of RUET while he went into the water to recover the mobile phone which fell in the water during taking selfies.
