Prof Dr M Abdus Sobhan, Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University, has expressed his deep concern over the attempt of holding the Mass Hearing by the University Grant's Commission on the alleged complaints of corruption brought against him by a section of Progressive block of teachers of the varsity. He has also expressed his worry that there is every possibility of partiality in such a Mass Hearing to be tabled by the UGC.

Prof Abdus Sobhan also termed such Mass Hearing illegal, a contempt of court and an attempt to curb the power of the Honourable President as well as Chancellor of the univeristies of the country.

In a letter sent to the UGC Chairman, Professor Abdus Sobhan wrote, the UGC has not been empowered to investigate into the allegations brought against the Vice-Chancellor.  But, it was an issue of great regret that a three-member Probe Body has been formed by the instruction of the Chairman of UGC to investigate into the anonymous or by-name allegations brought against him. Even, the three member probe committee comprised of a Senior Assistant Director and two Members of UGC in the rank of Vice-Chancellor is not formed by following any legal rule and regulations.

According to the rule the status of such probe committee members should be one step upward than that of the Vice-Chancellor. The Vice-Chancellor is appointed by the Honourable President as well as Chancellor and a probe of any allegation brought against Vice-Chancellor should only be conducted legally by the appointing authority. But, by forming the unlawful Probe Body comprised of a Senior Assistant Director and two UGC members at the rank of the Vice-Chancellor by the UGC is not only illegal but through forming such committee the power of the Honourable President has been curbed.

Professor Abdus Sobhan further wrote, the false allegations raised against him are under trial with the High Court Division of the Supreme Court and with the Appellate division.  That is why, any inquiry on the same issue or raising question in this connection is equal to the contempt of court. Vice-Chancellor Abdus Sobhan also brought allegation of partiality against theHead of the Probe Committee.

Prof Abdus Sobhan claimed, he has been made guilty even before holding of any enquiry. The Convener of the Probe Committee has presented the issue to the Media in such a way that
