The students of Rajshahi University demanded 3 points including cancellation of the ward quota in the admission test.

They placed their demand in a human chain organized by the university students in front of the central library of the university on Sunday (November 13) at 11.30 am.

The other demands are canceling the admission of students who have been admitted after even failing the entry test and punishment for those who were involved in admission test fraud syndicate.

Addressing the human chain, RU Chhatra Adhikar Parishad organizing secretary Amanullah Aman said, “The seats of any public university should be reserved for the backward students across the country. But there are many children of teachers of the university who cannot even secure a minimum pass mark in admission test get admitted under ward quota.”

“So, do our teachers consider themselves as backward people? These children of the teachers will be the teachers and officers of the university in the future. We demand the cancellation of this illogical ward quota,” Aman added.

Mehedi Hasan Munna, president of Nagrik Chhatra Oikya said, “Current administration took more failed students in than the previous administration.”

“University administration changes but these misdeeds do not stop. They transformed the university into an autocratic structure. Mass students do not have any rights here. We strongly condemn this irrational decision,” stated Munna.

Abdul Mojid Ontor, convener of RUCSU Andalan Manch said, “We can’t acknowledge these irregularities in admission tests anyway. The administration has given the opportunity for admission to such ineligibles, who couldn't even secure minimum 40 marks.”

“Ineligible students are creating obstacles in the way of higher education of talented students by getting admission in the university. If the authorities do not get rid of this ancestral system, we will go for a tougher movement,” Ontor added.

More than half a hundred students from different departments of the university were present while Philosophy department student Ashiqullah Muhib conducted the human chain program.

Contextually, The Rajshahi University (RU) authorities have decided to take in 60 admission candidates under ward quota, who could not secure the minimum marks to pass the 2021-22 session entrance examinations held on 25-27 July.

The decision was taken at the meeting of the admission test sub-committee held on November 06 at night while university vice-chancellor Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar chaired.
