Robbery at Dohar Jaipara Bazar sharnapotti

A group of armed robbers looted around 80 bhori gold, 138 bhori silver and cash of 2 lakh 58 thousand taka from four gold shops in Joypara bazaar sharnapotti of Dhaka's Dohar upazila.

The robbery took place at around 1:30am on Sunday. During the robbery, the robbers exploded bombs in order to create panic and left the place quickly when the news of robbery was reported from mike of the market mosque.

The businessmen said the robbers came into the speedboat from the east side of the market and tied the hands of the guards and entered the sharnapotti. At that time, the robbers beat the employees of the store and broke the shutters of Pabitra Alankar Niketon, Swadhin Alankar Niketon, Haji Alankar Niketan and Sashadhor Alankar Niketon and took away gold jewelry, silver and cash.

Pradeep Pal, son of the owner of the Pabitra Alankar Niketan said, "The robbers looted 50 bhori gold and 1 lakh 30 thousand taka from Haji Alankar Niketon, 10 bhori gold and 80 thousand taka from Pabitra Alankar Niketon, 20 bhori gold, 130 bhori silver and 10 thousand taka from Swadhin Alankar Niketon. Not only these, the staffs and some of the owners were seriously injured.

The people in the neighborhood woke up at midnight after hearing the screams of the injured people. But in the meantime, the robbers fled away.

Akhil Pal, owner of Sashadhor Alankar Niketon said, “The robbers broke the shutters by hitting it with iron rod from outside. Later, they beat me and tied my hands and feet. A group of 4 to 5 masked and armed people broke the locker and looted gold jewelry and cash.”

Ismail, the owner of the Haji Alankar said that the employees usually, at night, sleep inside the shop. The robbers broke the shutter with iron rod and entered the shop and beat Krishnapal, a staff, who is seriously injured.

In this connection, Dohar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sajjad Hossain said, “The gang stormed into the jewellery around 1:30am. They beat up some employees of the shop and left the area after exploding crude bombs. Before we arrived at the scene, the robbers left the place with a speedboat. We are checking all roads to arrest the criminals.”
