Hundreds of people including students blocked Jhenidah-Kushtia highway at Bhatai Bazer under Sailkupa upazila in Jhenidah on Monday morning protesting killing of a woman allegedly by in-laws.
It was alleged that husband’s family had allegedly killed a house wife and the police in Sailkupa police station did not receive any case regarding the death.
The protestors said that Sonia Khatun, daughter of Feroj Hossain of Goalkhali village in Sailkupa, was married to some Sazib Hossain, son of Badshah Hossain of same village following a love affair.
Since the marriage, the father and mother in-law of Sonia had been allegedly torturing even for a
trifling matter.
Sazib’s parents in the afternoon of Sunday had killed Sonia by throttling and hanged her with her orna in her room. The locked the house from the outside and fled away immediately after the killing
incident.
The family members of Sonia said they informed the matter to local police and they recovered the hanging body from the bedroom. They sent the body to Jhenidah Sadar hospital morgue for post mortem examination.
The family members of Sonia when came to Sailkupa police station to file a case, the police denied of recording case. Rather, they filed an unnatural death and released the parents of Sazib who were detained by the police. To ensure case and stern action against the killers, the people came to street on Monday morning.
Additional superintendent of police in Sailkupa circle Tarek Al Mehedi said the protestors withdrew blockade when police had assured them of legal steps as per the post mortem report submitted by the hospital authorities.
