Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has recently unearthed some organised gangs allegedly involved in various forgeries including that of upgrading SSC results.

Deputy Inspector General of CID Shaikh Nazmul Alam confirmed it while talking to Bangladesh Post on Friday afternoon.

“As the authority has decided to publish the SSC result on May 31, the forgers have become active for earning money through giving false promises of upgrading SSC results,” he said.

A number of students and guardians have already given them a huge amount of money for upgrading SSC results, the senior CID official exclusively told this correspondent.

Some gang members have already published various posts on social media asking the SSC result seekers to communicate with them.

Cyber police of the CID, the special investigation unit of Bangladesh Police, have enhanced their cyber patrolling ahead of publishing the SSC results.

DIG Shah Alam, the head of cyber police of the CID, said, “Ahead of publishing results of the public examinations criminals become active to cheat people  making the promise of ensuring them of expected result through changing the original ones.”

“Actually, so far as per our investigation, they could not change or upgrade any result,” he added.

Responding to a question of Bangladesh Post, DIG Shah Alam said, “As the forgery gangs block users after getting money, victims cannot detect them. Highly sophisticated technologies are required to identify those criminals. We have to focus on the issue of using technology to identify and arrest the criminals.”

He further said, “We have detected some other criminals who are involved in the same crimes and are earning money in the name of changing results.”

“We’ll be able to arrest them,” he added.

DIG Shaikh Nazmul said, “Moniruzzaman , one of a gang, using fake Facebook account  ‘Hasan Mahmod’, claimed himself as a staff working in preparing the SSC results. He published several posts in the social media one after another.”

In these posts, he urged to communicate with him to upgrade their SSC results in exchange for money. He assured them of changing SSC results to A+ from any poor grades. Thus the gang earned a huge amount of money from hundreds of students and their guardians, said the top CID official.

After receiving money, the frauds blocked the Facebook users so that the criminals could not be traced by the law enforcement agencies, he described.

Getting various complaints from students and guardians, cyber police of CID detected the owner of the fake Facebook account. They also traced his location.

Special Police Super Shamsul Alam and Police Super Reshma Sharmeen in association with Inspector Kazal Sharma, Sub Inspector Md Masud Rana, Assistant Sub Inspectors Mohasin Ahmed and Md Mainul Islam on Thursday night raided at Goloknagor village under Shailakupa upazila in Jhenaidah district.

They arrested Md Monir Moniruzzaman, 24, son of Jamal Biswas and Farida Begum. CID teams also seized some electronic devices from his possession.

During primary interrogation, Monir admitted that he was cheating innocent SSC result seekers and their guardians with false assurance to upgrade their results to A+ grade from any lower grades. A case was filed under the Digital Security Act against Monir with the local police station.

DIG Shaikh  Nazmul said, “ Actually our students, guardians, and teachers should be well aware. They should know that even the attempts of upgrading results are  totally unethical and criminal act as per law.”

He warned to take stern action against those involved in the unfair attempts along with the forgery gangs. Responding to another question, DIG Shaikh Nazmul said, “ We are working to arrest all involved in such cheating.”
