Remaining aware of cyber threat stressed

Speakers at a programme underscored the need for remaining aware of increasing cyber threat such as online bullying, harassment and hacking to protect official as well as individual privacy. They came up with these observations at a seminar on “Cyber Security-First Responder: Threat Detection and Response” jointly organized by Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) and Digisec Council at BIBM auditorium in the city on Tuesday.

They further said no high power technology can guarantee of protecting documents and other important data from cyber threat but if the authorities concerned and individuals always remain alert and in touch of the technological update, it would be possible to keep their data protected.

Most of the cyber-attack victims of the country go for action after a cyber-accident is occurred as there is no prediction system of such attacks here, they added. The cyber expert advises everyone to take maximum precautions to avoid risk. Jeff Felice, President of CertNexus of Rochester in USA, presented a paper on ‘Cyber Security’ in the programme.

Professor Barkat-e-Khuda, former Dhaka University teacher and BIBM’s Muzaffer Ahmed Chair Professor presided over the programme. APAC director of training and consulting Desmond Devendran said most of the people often open online offer-links like online games but clicking on such links means all information goes in the hand of the hackers.

One can protect his data and information from the attack of hackers by not clicking on these alluring links, he added. A good number of participants including senior bank executives, academicians, media representatives, faculty members of BIBM addressed the roundtable discussion.

Bangladesh Bank’s banking reforms advisor SK Sur Chowdhury, Bank Asia president and managing director Md Arfan Ali, DigiSec Council CEO Maruf Ahmed, BIBM professor and director (training) Dr Shah Md Ahsan Habib, APAC director of training, supernumerary professor of BIBM and former managing director of Pubali Bank Limited Helal Ahmed Chowdhury and former supernumerary Professor of BIBM Yasin Ali, among others, spoke at the event.
