Savar upazila administration seized 39 sacks of relief items and 52 packets of rice from two separate rooms of a school of Pathalia Union in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital on Thursday night.
Ekramul Haque Project Implementation Officer (PIO) of Savar instructed by Upazila Nirbahi Officer seized the relief items. Locals alleged that Parvez Dewan, Chairman of Pathalia Union Parishad stockpiled the relief materials to embezzle them.
Shamima Akter Nipa, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Savar told The Bangladesh Post, "The relief items were supposed to be distributed among people within a certain period of time. Notice will be given to Parvez Dewan, Pathalia UP chairman to show causes why he did not distribute the relief materials. Legal action will be taken if his reply is not satisfactory.”
Meanwhile, denying all allegations, Parvez Dewan, Chairman of Pathalia Union Parishad and member of newly formed Savar Upazila Awami League committee told The Bangladesh Post, "We cannot distribute the relief within certain time due to several reasons. But there was no intention to embezzle. A vested quarter is trying to tarnish my image as you know the UP election is ahead".
