Rajshahi BGB seizes around Tk 1.5-crore drug items

Battalion-1 of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Rajshahi has seized various kinds of drug items valued at around Taka 1.5 crore during last eight months, reports BSS.

The items included 21,154 bottles of phensidyl, 8,276 pieces of yaba, 743 grams of heroin, 63 kilograms of ganja, 324 bottles of wine and 1,120 pieces of injection.

Director the Battalion Lt Col Ferdous Ziauddin Mahmud revealed this while talking to a group of journalists at his office here today. Additional Director of the battalion Major Asif Bulbul was present on the occasion.

He also said 22,771 domestic animals including 11,468 cattle, 11,298 buffaloes and five horses were imported from the neighbouring country in legal way thereby the government earned revenue worth more than Taka 1.14 crore during the same time.

Col Ziauddin Mahmud added that vigilance along the borders has been intensified to check firearms and drug smuggling and other border related crimes. 

He said drug-free society must be built at any cost to protect people and younger generation in particular from deadly aggression of drugs. Taking part in the discussion, the journalists called for creating awareness among the people living along the borders so that they can abide by the law of the land and international border rules for ensuring peace and tranquility along the borders.
