Dr Benzir Ahmed, Inspector General of Bangladesh Police questioned how the family members of Rajakars (collaborators) dare to raise their voices in the social media claiming that they are descendants of Rajakars even after fifty years of country’s independence.

He said, “We are very shocked to see the sons of the Razakars are proudly raising their voices (in social media) saying that they are the sons of the Razakars.”

The chief of police made these remarks while unveiling the Liberation War based sculpture ‘Fearless', newly constructed Sudharam Model Police Station, Sonapur Police Outpost, Police Lines Women Barrack Building and unveiling the publication of the book - 'Police in the War of Liberation: Noakhali District'.

The IGP said that one of the ways to preserve the dignity of the country that our forefathers gave to us in response to the call of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, is to present the correct history to the next generation.

“It is a historical obligation, a historical duty,” he reminded.

The IGP respectfully recalled the great sacrifice of the then Superintendent of Police of Noakhali district Abdul Hakim and his family members for the country and people for the independence during the war.

He also paid tribute to the contribution of other officers and brave members of the Noakhali district police, who sacrificed their lives in the great war of independence.

He said, “We have to uphold the spirit through which the people of this country liberated the country in 1971 under the leadership of Bangabandhu.”

He pointed out that such books and sculptures (on war) can be one of the guiding factors, so that people never forget history.

He said the contribution and role of Bangladesh Police under the leadership of Bangabandhu in the freedom struggle of the country needs to be documented for two reasons. One is as part of the history of the nation's liberation war and as part of the history, tradition of the Bangladesh Police Force.

The IGP said, “The act of heroism of police where they have participated (different places) in the liberation war should be highlighted for the future generation. The role of police in the liberation war in the history of the transition of the Bengali nation must be documented. As a self-respecting nation, these need to be documented with the highest priority so that the next generation can pay respect with dignity.”

The IGP urged to all to present correct facts and history about the Liberation War for the next generation.

Noakhali District Superintendent of Police Md Alamgir Hossain presided over the function. The speakers lauded the contribution of the then Superintendent of Police of Noakhali district Shahid Abdul Hakim in the war of liberation and paid deep respects to him.

Additional IGPs Md. Moinur Rahman Chowdhury, SM Ruhul Amin, Md. Mazharul Islam and Additional IG of ATU Md. Kamrul Ahsan, among others were present.

Later, IGP inaugurated the liberation war-based sculpture 'Nirvik', the newly constructed Sudharam Model Police Station of Noakhali District Police, Sonapur Police Outpost, Police Lines Women Barrack Building.

He also unveiled the cover of the book 'Police in the War of Liberation:  Noakhali District'. The book, published by Bangladesh Police Liberation War Museum, was edited by Md. Alamgir Hossain. AKM Gias Uddin Mahmud, Abu Naser Monju and Md. Enayet Karim as researchers .
