After three-and-a-half hours, the rail communication between Sylhet and Dhaka-Chattogram and other parts of the country has returned to normal.

Rail communication resumed on Tuesday (September 15) at 11:45 am after the derailed oil carriage was recovered.

Sylhet Railway Station Manager Khalilur Rahman said, “Relief trains and engineers from Kulaura in Moulvibazar rescued the derailed bogies after trying for about three and a half hours. As there was no oil in the wagon, it was quickly recovered and the railway route was reconnected. Train services resumed around 12:15 pm.

Dulal Chandra Das, lock-in-charge of Kulaura railway station, confirmed the information, saying, “The tankers were rescued, out of which 21 were taken to nearby Maizgaon railway station and three to Baramchal station under Kulaura upazila.”

Earlier, at around 8:30 am, the empty oil tanker No. 952 bound for Chattogram left Sylhet and reached Bhatera railway station when a bogie suddenly derailed. There was no major damage to the train as it was empty. However, Sylhet’s rail communication with the rest of the country was cut off for around four hours.
