‘Quick adaption with new technology, product diversification key to survive in global market’

Chattogram Chamber president Mahbubul Alam stressed need to move quickly to the new technologies as well as diversification of product to survive in the competitive global market.  

“To be in line with our competing countries, we need to increase technical excellence as well as give importance to skilled human resources.  Along with technological improvement, the domestic production and supply of raw materials should be increased to reduce costs”, Mahbub added  

He was addressing a round table meeting titled "Transforming the Manufacturing Sector in the Era of Technology" jointly organized by Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and Bangladesh Center of Excellence (BCE) at the World Trade Center on Thursday.  

Chamber President Mahbubul Alam presided over the meeting.  Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice-President and Price Water Coopers (PWC) Advisory Lead Arnab Basu, Senior Partner of PwC Mamun Rashid spoke at the discussion meeting.  35 entrepreneurs, managing directors and senior officials from 20 sectors of Chattogram were present in the round table meeting moderated by Chamber Vice President Syed Mohammad Tanvir.

Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry vice-president Arnab Basu said that supply chain plays an important role in the manufacturing sector.  In the global context, they have their own capabilities in supply chain and are also moving forward in manufacturing.  

“The world is now using robotic technology in manufacturing which is increasing production several times.  Therefore, digitization and technological excellence are no substitutes for achieving the capabilities of the manufacturing sector’, he added

Syed Mohammad Tanvir, Vice President of the Chamber, said that practical discussions and expert opinions on the use, effects, problems and future possibilities of digitization in various sectors have emerged in this round table meeting today.  

He also said that the Chattogram Chamber will work on solving all the problems of traders, transforming business groups and other problems in the future.

The speakers discussed skilled human resources, technological excellence and all its potential pitfalls.  Along with technological advancements, he also emphasized on how to protect the organization from data privacy and cyber-attacks.
