Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Thursday called for disciplined driving to ensure safe journey for the home-goers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
“We have built new bridges, underpass and roads but all this will go in vain if drivers don’t exercise discipline,” he said while talking to journalists after holding talks with law enforcers, transport owners and safe road activists at his office in the city. The road transport minister also called upon transport owners and workers’ union to convey the message to drivers who will carry holyday-makers to their destinations.

Obaidul Quader also called upon them to check black-marketing of tickets, hiking fares and hassling passengers ahead and after the Eid home rush.
As usual, in a bid to ensure smooth and hassle-free journey of holidaymakers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr this year the government has decided to halt plying of trucks and lorries on the highways across the country three days ahead of the Eid.

While plying of trucks and lorries will be halted for three days ahead of the Eid, vehicles carrying daily essentials and emergency medicine will be out of purview of the instruction. Also, steps have been taken to ensure that the CNG refuelling stations across the country will remain open round-the-clock seven days before and five days after the Eid.

Besides, vigilance teams will remain active round-the-clock to make sure that no passenger is charged extra fare on buses during the Eid journey, according to officials.
