Minister of Information and Broadcasting Dr. Hasan Mahmud has termed the proper promotion of Islam and Muslim Ummah through the world media and social media as very important.
He said, the OIC and its member countries can take multifaceted steps to highlight to the world that Islam's motto is peace and Islam does not support terrorism for the sake of religion.
The minister expressed this opinion in his speech on behalf of Bangladesh at the twelfth conference of information ministers of the Islamic Conference of Information Ministers (ICIM) in Istanbul, Turkey on Saturday afternoon.
Fahrettin Altun, President of Turkey's Directorate of Communications (Directorate of Communications), OIC Secretary General Hussein Brahim Taha and the Information Ministers of member countries addressed the conference under the theme of 'Combating Disinformation and Islamophobia'.
Minister of Information and Broadcasting Dr Hasan Mahmud highlighted the example of protection of religious harmony and suppression of militancy in Bangladesh before the OIC. He said that under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, the environment of practicing their respective religions is being maintained peacefully in this country, so that no one can use religion as a tool of militancy, the government has adopted a policy of zero tolerance.
Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said, "Despite the fact that Bangladesh is the most densely populated country in the world, for the sake of humanity, more than 1.1 million Myanmar citizens have given temporary shelter to the Rohingyas." The government has been providing humanitarian assistance to the Rohingyas despite the global recession due to the Corona epidemic and the war in Ukraine. Misinformation is often spread about it. But I want to say in no uncertain terms that the only solution is the repatriation of the Rohingyas to their own country Myanmar with full citizenship rights and the sooner the better for all.' Information and Broadcasting Minister highlighted the clear position of the country regarding Palestine in the conference. Reiterating the country's full support to the Palestinians, he said, Bangladesh believes that the formation of an independent sovereign Palestinian state is the only solution in this regard. Addressing the OIC members, the minister said, "Hopefully, no national issue of any country can divert us from supporting an independent Palestine."
Highlighting Bangladesh's progress despite the corona pandemic and global recession, Information Minister Hasan said that the 23 billion dollar stimulus package announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visionary decision amid the pandemic has kept the country's economy running and despite the pandemic, we have achieved 6.94 percent growth in 2021, which is 7.25 percent this year. Economists expect to stand.
