Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-14 arrested the main accused in the case filing for gang raping and killing schoolgirl Smriti Akhter Rima.
The arrestee is Piyash Mia, 18, son of Rubel Mila of Charfaradi village under Pakundia upazila in Kishoreganj. The RAB men arrested him from West Matharbari area of Chattogram in the early hours on Sunday. Captain of RAB-14 (CPC-2) Lt. Commander BNM Shovon Khan confirmed the matter at a press conference in Kishoregnaj. He said that the law enforcers are trying to arrest the other accused in the case.
Smriti Akhter Rima, 15, daughter of l Abul Hossain of Jamail village in Hossainpur upazila, was a Class Nine student of Hossainpur Pilot Girls’ High School. Police recovered her body from Gondhar Chor area under Pakundia upazila on July 18. She came to visit her maternal uncle’s house with her mother.
Rima went out of the house in the evening on July and did not returned home. Later, the neighbours found her body hanging from a tree nearby the house in the morning on July 18 and informed the police.
She was raped by Piyash and his friends and killed by them later.
After the incident, a special team of RAB-14 visited the area. BNM Shovon said Piyash confessed his crime.
