Premier University authorities have temporarily handed over their student hostel to the Chattogram District Administration for quarantine of suspected coronavirus infected people.

The decision was made on Saturday on the opinion of members of the Premier University Board of Trustees, including Deputy Minister of Education Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury Knopfel and Vice-Chancellor Dr Anupam Sen.

The district administration has accepted the student hostel for use as a quarantine center and has begun their process in this regard, according to a press release sent from the Public Relations Branch of Premier University.

Assistant Public Relations Officer of Premier University Shamsul Arefin said that an 8-storey building of Premier University has been builton its own land purchased by the city corporation with Tk 9 crore in the city.

Each floor has a total of 40 rooms with 5 rooms. A total of 160 students have been provided accommodation in these rooms. Each room has a lavatory toilet. There are separate beds for each student, their own cabinets, reading tables, chairs and dressing tables.

Two years ago the hostel was ready but it has not been launched yet. There are enough facilities for use as quarantine centers, he said.

Earlier, the Chittagong District Administration had decided to use the Chittagong University as a quarantine center. But due to the objection of teachers and locals, the district administration again canceled the decision.

But the private premier university authorities are voluntarily giving away their hostel to the district administration, the press release said.
