Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested a fugitive for sexually harassing his former wife from the city.

Talking to Bangladesh Post, Assistant Inspector General (AIG - Media and Public Relations) Mir Sohel Rana of the Police Headquarters confirmed it on Monday evening.

The arrestee was identified as Atiqul Islam Babu.

According to the AIG, a Facebook user had recently sent a message to the Facebook page of the Media and Public Relations Wing of the Bangladesh Police describing that a woman was being continuously harassed by her ex-husband in various ways.

He was disrupting her private life. The victim was living in a very scared situation and was too scared to share it with others, the FB message added.

Getting the information, the Media and Public Relations Wing contacted the woman and found evidence that her ex-husband had been harassing her for a long time.

The Media and Public Relations Wing later informed the officer-in-charge (OC), Ramna police station of the matter and directed him to take necessary action against the person.  The OC sought technological help from the Detective Branch (DB) of DMP.

Ramna Police and a team of DB led by ADC Md Ashrafullah jointly conducted a drive and arrested Babu on Sunday from the city’s Ramna area.

The police official arrested Babu who was convicted in a criminal case earlier and remained fugitive.
