Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested four members of a fraud gang in connection with making counterfeit revenue and postage stamps.
The arrested were identified as Roni Sheikh 25, Abdul Aziz,23, Ashrafuzzaman alias Akash,45, Morsalin Sordar Sohel,30. AKM Hafiz Akter, additional commissioner (detectives), briefed the reporters at a press conference at the DMP media centre on Saturday. He said a team of DB personnel arrested them in separate drives at Ashulia and city's Paltan area. Revenue and postage stamps worth Tk 18 crore were seized during the raid.
The gang was producing various types of counterfeit stamps, court fee and other official documents for long and circulating those in the local markets, depriving government of revenue, he added.
It costs around Tk 15 to produce a page of stamps and the gang used to sell it at Tk 25-30. Akter said.
