The Papaya cultivation in Naogaon district is badly hampered due to incessant rainfall for several days and accumulation of water in the field. Due to waterlogging, the Papiya plants are turning yellow and dying away.

It is learnt, many farmers of the Naogaon, specially of Raninagar upazila, this year cultivated Papiya experimentally on comparatively high land but the inclement weather condition has damaged the Papiya plants.

Many farmers were applying insecticides and fertiliser in those plants to save those but none of those working.

Abu Bakar Siddique of Bhawanipur village informed, he took five bighas of land at Taka 9,000 per year at Chalkkujail area of Kashimpur union and has been cultivating Papiya along with other vegetables and crops there. Though the Papiya tree grew smoothly at first, due to recent incessant rainfall for day, most of those Papiya trees have turned yellow and died.

Shahidul Islam, Upazila Agriculture Officer of Raninagar informed, farmers of the upazila were now cultivating Papiya on comparatively high land. But, due to excessive rainfall this year, the Papiya cultivation is being hampered.
