Paddy procurement begins in Koyra

Department of Ghugraghati Food of Koyra upazila has started Aman paddy procurement directly from the farmers of Koyra upazila in Khulna district for ensuring fair prices of the staple food, reports BSS.

According to Upazil Food Department Office, A total of 1,681 metric tonnes of Aman paddy will be procured from 7 unions under Koyra upazila during the current season.

A total of 1700 card holder farmers can sell paddy at fixed price of Taka 26 per kg. The paddy procurement programme will continue till February 28, source said.

A farmer of Koyra upazila said “this year, we are also earning good profit by selling Aman paddy at Tk 1,040 per mound in the local market.

Many farmers coming from different villages of the upazila, they are very happy to get rice high price and cash Taka in the Ghugragha food storage than the local market.

Ghugarkati Food Warehouse Officer Md. Nurunnabi Siddique said that the procurement of paddy in the warehouse started from on January 26 by the enlisted 1700 card holder farmers.

The Department of Agricultural Extension sources said the country has witnessed bumper Aman yield as the government has provided all necessary support including agri-input to the farmers for boro paddy cultivation.
