Pace of justice delivery needs to be accelerated: Law Minister

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq said the pace of work globally has multiplied in the digital age. Judges in Bangladesh also need to speed up the judiciary with this in mind. Judges need to think about how to get things done quickly.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of the 46th and 47th basic training courses for assistant judges and equivalent judges at the Judicial Administration Training Institute in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Addressing the judges, the law minister said the era has changed. You are now the judge of the digital age. Earlier, if there was a delay in the trial, the people would have understood themselves by realizing various reasons. But in this digital age, they will not see the delay in justice. They want speedy justice. "One thing is for sure, Justice Delayed is Justice Denied and Justice Harid is Justice Barried. You have to coordinate between the two," he said. It must come into a balance. He added that there is always a complaint that the medical officer and the investigating officer are late in giving evidence when they go to trial. Because it takes a long time to find them, identify them and bring them from the workplace to the judicial court. As part of resolving the issue, arrangements have been made to add the mobile numbers of the medical officer and the investigating officer to the chargesheet of the case. This will make it easier to contact them and bring them to court. Now we are one step further. That is to inform the date of the case to every witness including the medical officer and the investigating officer through SMS. As a result, they can no longer say that we did not receive the news or that I could not come to court for this. "But we are doing these things," the minister said. Now what the judges have to guarantee is that the day the medical officer or the investigating officer or any other witness comes to testify in court, he should be his witness. This is something the judges need to make sure of. Anisul Haque said, we have built the Padma bridge with our own funds. It is a matter of our dignity. With the help of this bridge, we are now going to Barguna in four hours from Dhaka. Which used to take at least 10-12 hours. But we also have to maintain this speed to judge. Otherwise, I will not be able to reduce 39 lakh cases.

He said the judicial officer would be further promoted. The number of judges has to be reduced to three thousand. He also assured the judges that he would make arrangements for judicial officers to get low-interest government loans to buy cars. Director General of the Judicial Administration Training Institute Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana presided over the ceremony. Golam Sawar spoke.
