Online math course launched to enhance skills

The Primary and Mass Education Ministry launched an online course on Tuesday with a view to increasing primary students’ mathematical skill as well as ensuring quality education.

State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Minister Md Zakir Hossain inaugurated the online course under a programme titled “Primary Learners’ Mathematical Skills Enhancement through Mathematics Olympiad Methods” through a virtual conference on Tuesday.

The method will incorporate lessons that are oriented in problem-solving that allows teachers to generate and apply creative concepts which will encourage students to also be creative.

During the inauguration, the state minister said, “After coming to the power, the incumbent government has taken the 4th primary education development programme (PEDP-4). To enhance the mathematical skills of primary students, we have kept a sub-component under the PEDP-4.”

“The primary and mass education ministry in collaboration with Bangladesh Math Olympiad Committee and access to information (A2I) has been running a programme to enhance the primary students’ mathematical skill. We are now launching online course under the programme to make our students more skilled,” he added.

He went on to say, “Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman knew that primary education is essential for the development of the people. Therefore, after the independence of the country, Bangabandhu took initiative to nationalize all the primary schools across the country.”

“The government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, nationalized more than 26 thousand primary schools in the last 10 years,” he added.

Akram-al-Hossain, Senior Secretary at Primary and Mass Education, said, “Our math Olympiad programme will help students learn mathematics as a fun subject. The online programme has to be planned in such a way that children can enjoy while enhancing their math skills.”

Mathematics Olympiad Sub-Component Team Leader Md Sohel Hasan (Deputy-secretary) conducted the virtual programme whereas Md Fasiullah, director general of the Primary Education directorate, graced the programme by his presence.
