Number of smokers drops amid Corona in Rajshahi

Amid the Cornavirus pandemic, smoking of cigarettes has a bit been decreased in Rajshahi city, said the report of a survey conducted among 54-smokers of diverse professions by a non-government organisation during last one week. 

Some of the smokers informed, the smokers who used to take one packages of cigarette a day were now relying on 4-5 sticks only while some others have quit the smoking and others were thinking seriously to quit smoking.

Among 54 smokers, four have quitted smoking, 35 have reduced the number of smoking cigarettes daily and thirteen of them were seriously thinking to quit smoking and rest 15 were continuing smoking as usual.

Sujon Ali, a workers at Bata show room in Rajshahi informed, he has reduced the smoking of cigarette as he came to learn from his friends that smoking can cause Coronavirus infection. He added, he took only 3-4 four sticks of cigarette a day now. 

Abdus Sobur(45), a bank official in Rajshahi informed, he quits smoking by watching the briefing of IECDR regularly where he came to learn that the risk of death of smokers is higher among Coronavirus patients and the smokers are easily infected with the virus. That is why, he quits  smoking forever.

Abdullah Al Mamun, a student of Rajshahi University said,' Corona has showed us how dangerous the smoking is ! I have quit smoking by watching the warning WHO and the IECDR. 

A university teacher of RU requesting anonymity said, he known smoking is dangerous and injurious to health that is why he was trying to quit smoking. 

Mosafa Kamal. Programme Manager of ACD, Rajshahi, informed, ' I have been watching the smokers have deceased the smoking due to Cornavirus pandemic. It is also noticeable that smoking has also been decreased at the public places of the city. If the District Administration takes an effective role to stop illegal advertisement of tobacco and cigarettes in the city, the smoking in the city would further decreased.'

Dr. Mohaiminul Haque, Medicine Specialist in Rajshahi informed, from the sneezing and coughing of an infected person, the Coronavirus spreads . The Coronavirus can also spread through smoke of cigarettes of an infected person. Coronavirus mainly attacked the respiratory organs of a person as a result, the smoker runs a higher risk of death due to Corona infection. So, every one should quit smoking.'
