A student of Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) has attempted to commit suicide following attack and harassment by some other students of the university on the campus. The victim is Sabmiah Sohel, a 2nd year student of Department of Information Science and Library Management of the university. After the incident suicide attempt, she was taken to Noakhali Sadar Hospital.
Some friends of the victim said that Sabmiah Sohel uploaded a photo of Sakibul Hasan Durjoy, a 3rd year student of Department of Applied Mathematics, and his girlfriend Mariam Siddika Jeni, a 1st year student of Department of Information Science and Library Management, on the Facebook. Then the victim was called by Durjoy and asked about it on Tuesday evening. At the time, she became harassed by the girlfriend of Durjoy and attacked by Durjoy and some 8-9 others, including Tanvir Mahtab Sami, 2nd year student of Department of Bengali, Sohan, 2nd year student of Department of Social Work.
It was known that the students involved in the attack are supporters of Shakib Mosharraf Dhruvo, general secretary of the NSTU unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League. NSTU Proctor Prof Dr Newaz Mohammed Bahadur said they will take legal action after they get any complaint. Besides, the attackers threatened the university journalists when they went to spot to collect information.
