The domestic leather industry of the country ahead of Eid-ul Azha will not face any crisis of salt for preserving rawhide. Around 1.8 million metric tons of salt has been produced this year and administration has taken all the adequate steps to tackle the situation, Ministry Industries Secretary Md Abdul Halim has assured yesterday (31st July) at BSCIC Tannery Industrial Estate Savar, Hemayetpur.

He made the statement at a views exchange meeting with journalists. The demand is 100,000 metric tons just for the upcoming Eid. Government directed salt stockers to meet the demand of season without halting the price. Abdul Halim said, a total of 1.8 million metric tons of salt has been produced this year against Bangladesh's annual demand of 1.4 million metric tons.

He also informed that the work on Savar Tannery Industrial Estate will be completed by June, 2020. Key Industry businessmen as well as leather goods manufacturers and tanners are apprehensive that the cut proposal would create serious raw material congestion in the homegrown marketplace and ultimately lead to hostile pricing of Indian finished products in the international arena.

Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) Chairman Shaheen Ahmed and higher officials of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) were also present in the event.
