When mayors of Dhaka South City Corporation and Dhaka North City Corporation continue claiming that their respective officials and councilors remain active in the field to eradicate Aedes mosquitoes, the infection continue to keep rising as at least 221 people with dengue fever were admitted to hospitals in the country on Friday.  Of them, 212 were admitted to the hospitals in Dhaka and nine outside the capital.

Reportedly, a total of 1,190 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at different hospitals and clinics across the country. Among them, 1,096 patients are taking treatment in Dhaka division and 96 are outside the capital. So far, the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) has confirmed 31 people's death due to dengue fever.

The ongoing dengue

eradication drive will have to be intensified to bring down

the number

of dengue patients to nil

It is not possible to eradicate Aedes mosquitoes without destroying the source.  Therefore, city corporations and people will have to work together for destroying the breeding grounds and other the sources of the Aedes mosquito. The city corporations and general people must strive to control the infestation of Aedes mosquitos immediately at any cost.

It has been noticed that even after repeated warnings, people are not becoming aware of Dengue. We think the city corporations will not be able to protect the people unless they are aware of it.  Besides, the ongoing dengue eradication drive will have to be intensified to bring down the number of dengue patients to nil.

When the Covid-19 pandemic is sweeping across the country, Dengue is adding salt into the wounds. Therefore, the city dwellers must discharge their responsibilities properly along with the city corporations.

Aedes mosquitoes lay their eggs in flower tubs, plastic containers, discarded tires, plastic drums, earthenware pots, buckets, tin cans, coconut shells or coconut garlands, containers, pots, battery cells and etc. Therefore, apart from the city corporations, experts will also have to come forward in order to make people more cautious about how and in what way the breeding ground and other the sources Adese mosquito can be destroyed.
