Neela murder in Savar: 3 including parents of prime suspect arrested

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two more people involved in the murder of student Neela Roy (14) in Savar. Until now three people have been arrested.

Jamir Uddin Ahmed, Additional Superintendent of Police of RAB-4 CPC-2, confirmed that they were arrested in a raid at Manikganj Charigram around 8pm on Thursday (September 24).

The arrested are Abdur Rahman, 60, son of Haji Ayub Ali of Bank Colony area of Savar and his wife Nazmunnahar Siddique, 50. They are the parents of Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, the main accused in the case. Abdur Rahman is number two and Nazmunnahar is number three suspect in the murder case.

He said those arrested would be handed over to Savar police station. The operation to arrest Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, the main accused in the case, is continuing.

Earlier on Tuesday (September 22), police arrested a young man named Selim Palowan (25), an associate of Mizanur Rahman. However, he is not an accused in the case.

The deceased was identified as Neela, daughter of Narayan Roy of Balirtek area in Manikganj district. Neela lived with her family in Kazi Mokmapara area of the municipal area and studied in 10th grade of the local ACED School.

According to family sources, Mizanur Rahman stabbed Neela to death on Sunday (September 20) at around 7 pm while she was on the way to the hospital in a rickshaw with her brother after she rejected his love proposal.

According to RAB sources, after Neela’s murder on the night of September 21, her father Narayan Roy became the plaintiff and filed a murder case against two or three other unidentified persons with Mizanur Rahman as the main accused.
