Nazrul’s works inspired nation during Liberation War: speakers

Speakers at a discussion in Khulna on Saturdy said that Nazrul’s poems and songs inspired the nation during the country’s great Liberation War and all democratic movements and struggles.

Terming the National Poet Nazrul as a genius in his time, they said he was a poet of humanity, non-communal, philosopher, revolutionary and a symbol of Bengali nationalism.

They were addressing the discussion at Khulna Umesh Chandra Public Library auditorium marking the 120th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

Khulna District Administration, Nazrul Birth Anniversary celebration committee and National Poet Nazrul Exercise Centre organised the discussion. Acting Deputy Commissioner Md Iqbal Hossain spoke it as the chief guest.

Chaired by General Secretary of Umesh Chandra Public Library Professor Md Anwarul Kadir, the programme was addressed, among others, by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education & ICT) Golam Mainuddin Hasan, Exicutive Director of NGO Rupantor Sawpon Guha and General Secretary of National Poet Nazrul Exercise Center Masud Mahmud.

Iqbal called for unity of all people believe in the spirit of Bengali nationalism and secularism to fight extremism and religious militants.

Later, he distributed prizes among the winners of art, poem recitation and quiz competitions.

In observance of the 120th birth anniversary of our national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, the three-day celebration programme, including seminar and Nazrul books fair, has been chalked out in the city.

The programme began on Saturday by placing wreaths at the portrait of poet Nazrul Islam.
