Murder case accused killed in Natore ‘crossfire’

The main accused in college student Al-Amin murder case Shooter Manik alias Sumon, 48, was killed in an encounter with police at Tofakata crossing of Gopalpur under Natore district early Saturday.

Manik was son of Yousuf Ali of Purba Tengri village under Ishurdi upazila of Pabna district.

Manik was accused in more than 15 cases including hijacking of car, robbery, mugging and snatching, informed Dilip Kumar Das, Officer in charge of Boraigram police station.

Police sources informed, on July 5, Shooter Manik was arrested in the case of killing of college student Al-Amin at snatching of his motor bike at Boraigram.

During interrogation, Manill admitted killing of Al-Amin and snatching his motor bike and killing of Alok Bagchi at Lalpur and snatching his motor bike and snatching of an auto after killing an auto-rickshaw driver. Manik was being taken to Lalpur police station from Boraigram for further interrogation but he was injured fatally in cross fire when his cohorts opened fire at police aiming to free Manik from police custody.

Injured Manik was rushed to Lalpur Health complex where attending doctors declared him dead.

Harun ur Rashaid, Additional Superintendent of Police (Boraigram circle) informed, there are more than 15 cases against shooter Manik in Ishurdi, Lalpur and Boraigram police station. He was killed in an encounter with police during his attempt to escape from police custody.
