Mother, two children found dead in Jashore: 3 arrested

A woman, her child daughter and son were found dead at Sharsha upazila in Jashore. Police arrested three members of the family in this connection. Locals claimed the housewife had been mentally and physically tortured by her husband and mother-in-law.

The bodies were recovered from their house at Chalitabaria village under Kaiba union at Sharsha upazila of Jashore at about 11:00 pm on Sunday night following a family feud.

The deceased were identified as Hamida Khatun, 35, wife of Ibrahim Hossain, her daughter Sharifa Khatun, 12, and son Shohan Hossain, 5, of  Chalitabaria village.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sharsha Police Station M. Moshiur Rahman confirmed the matter.  

Local sources said, housewife Hamida allegedly committed suicide by taking poison after killing her daughter and son on Sunday night following an altercation with her in-laws.

Quoting family members, OC Moshiur Rahman said that Hamida poisoned her daughter and son after she killed herself following a family feud. On information, police recovered the bodies and sent to Jashore 250-bed hospital morgue for post-mortem.

A case was filed with Sharsha police station in this connection. Police Super of Jashore Mainul Haque visited the deceased's house on Monday afternoon.

Police arrested Hamida’s mother-in-law Moriom Begum, father-in-law Arafat Hossain, and their neighbour Siddik Hossain.

Wahed Ali, father of Hamida, said that his daughter’s in-laws tortured her to death and they were trying to portray her death as a suicide. Hamida discovered the illicit relationship between her mother-in-law Moriom and their neighbour Siddik, which was why she had been murdered, he alleged.

Meanwhile, our Benapole Correspondent reports that the incident took place over inability to buy the children’s new clothes for Eid.

The family members claimed that her husband could not afford new clothes for her children.

Firoj Ahmed Tinku, Chairman of Kaiba Union Parishad, said that the mother committed suicide after killing her two children following an altercation  with her husband Ibrahim over the inability to buy the children’s new clothes for Eid. 

Police said that they are investigating the incident.
