More than 100 female students of a school fell sick when they were cleaning playground of the institution in Saturia upazila of Manikganj on Thursday.
At least 10-15 girls fainted due to high temperature and lack of water when they were cleaning the field as per direction of their teacher at Dargram Bohumukhi High School. Later, the number of ill pupils rose to 100.
The sick students were taken to Saturia Upazila Health Complex.
Meanwhile, guardians and students of the school encircled the head teacher and staged demonstration.
Police and upazila administration brought the situation under control.
Upazila Health Officer Mamun Ur Rashid said the girls became ill due to lack of water caused by high temperature.
Most of the ailing students returned home after treatment.
