‘Moner Jotno is a complete book on mental health’

Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni hailed a Dhaka University teacher for her first book on self care and mental health, and said the book contains ‘everything that needs to be done to maintain mental health’.

“I think everyone needs to read this book,” she said while unveiling the book ‘Moner Jotno’ at Bangla Academy on Wednesday. Roufun Naher, lecturer of the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology, Dhaka University, wrote the book. Anindya Prokash published the book.

Vice-Chancellor of the University Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Director of the National Institute of Mental Health Prof Mohit Kamal, psychologist Prof Mehtab Khanam, General Secretary of National Press Club Farida Yeasmin, Member Secretary of Samprity Bangladesh Prof Dr Mamun Al Mahtab Shwapnil and Chief of Anindya Prokash Afzal Hossain unveiled the book with the minister. Chairman of the Department Prof Mehjabin Haq chaired the event moderated by journalist Shamim Al Amin.

Praising the book, Dipu Moni said the book touches details about mental health care from dietary practice to yoga to meditation. “Simply put, the book is beautifully written. I hope everyone reading the book will benefit,” she said. The Vice Chancellor said the book discusses all issues in a “pragmatic way”. “The author's academic background and field of study and teaching gave her the authority to write such a book,” he said.

The writer said she tried to highlight various ways of being mentally healthy and stable. “Its like getting back to yourself in the midst of various storms and adversities. The book contains almost everything you can do for a peaceful mind and life,” she said.
