Modernizing maritime ports a priority

The Ministry of Shipping has signed the Annual Performance Agreement with its 10 departments and organizations for the 2019-20 fiscal year on Sunday. Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, State Minster for Shipping was present on the occasion. The Minister said it is possible to do everything well as per the plans and maintain disciple by the annual performance agreement. Transparency and accountability can also be ensured if things are planned well ahead. The role of the Annual Performance Agreement (APA) is very important in ensuring the government's accountability to the people. The contract is essential to make the ministry's work more dynamic and accountable.

Mahmud further said that the agreement is not only on paper; everyone will have to try to implement it more efficiently and sincerely. The agreement was signed between Shipping Secretary Mohammad Abdus Samad and Chattogram Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral Zulfiqar Aziz, Mongla Port Authority Member (Administration and Finance) Yasmin Afsana, Paiyra Port Authority Chairmen Commodore Jahangir Alam, Bangladesh Land Port Authority Chairmen Tapan Kumar Chakraborty, Director General of Shipping Directorate, Commodore Syed Ariful Islam, BIWTA Chairmen Commodore M Mahbub Ul Islam, BIWTC Chairmen Pronoy Kanti Biswas, Managing Director of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) Commodore Yahya Syed, Commandant of Bangladesh Marine Academy Sajid Hossain and the Principal of the National Maritime Institute Captain Faisal Azim on behalf of their organization.

They said that the first priority works for current fiscal year would to implement modern management, improving and conservation of all ports, management, conservation and development of lighthouse and lanterns on coastal waterways, formulation, implementation and updating of laws and regulations relating to maritime ports and ensuring domestic water transport and safe navigation.
