Six people were detained on Saturday in connection with rape and murder of a minor girl in city’s Wari on Friday.
The victim was identified as Samia Afrin Sayma who was a seven years old girl, and whose dead body was recovered earlier on Friday evening from a building under construction, near Bonogram Masque area of Wari Police Station.
Abdus Salam, a businessman and father of the victim on Saturday morning filed a case with the local police station accusing some unidentified criminals in connection with the gruesome killing of his daughter.
Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan (Wari Zone) Mohammad Shamsuszzaman confirmed that six persons, two from the same apartment, were detained for their alleged involvement, and further said, “We are investigating the incident.”
Police sources said, “Sayma went on missing during Magrib prayer. Her family members searched for her on different floors of the eight-storied under construction apartment. At one stage, her family members found her dead body in a room on the eighth floor of the apartment.”
Police primarily suspected that she was murdered after she had been raped.
Describing the incident, Salam said, “I went to the local mosque prior to the Ajan of Magrib prayer. While returning to my flat from the mosque, I brought breakfast. After returning to my residence, I saw my daughter Sayma missing.”
“I along with my wife started searching for her on different floors. At one stage, I found her dead body in a room of eighth floor.” he added.
He, however, could not exactly tell who the murderers were.
In the latest development, experts of the Forensic Department of Dhaka Medical College said,“Sayma had been raped before she was murdered.”
Dr Sohel Mahmud, head of the DMC Forensic Medicine Department told the journalists after an autopsy on her body.
DNA test result and other examinations confirm that the victim, Sayma, was raped and then she was strangled to death.
