Martyred Intellectuals Day observed across country with due solemnity

The Martyred Intellectuals Day was observed across the country on Monday (December 14) with participation of people from all walks of life through paying rich tributes to the intellectuals who were killed at the fag-end of the Liberation War in 1971.

Although the day was observed with due respect, this year, the programme was held on a limited scale considering the Covid-19 situation.

In Kushtia, the day was observed on Islamic University (IU) campus in Kushtia maintaining social distance with befitting manner, report our IU Correspondent. 

Marking the day, IU Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahinoor Rahman hoisted the national flag half-mast while registrar in charge SM Abdul Latif hoisted black flag wearing black badge in front of the administrative building of the university in the morning. Hall provosts hoisted the national flag half mast and black flag atop of the respective halls.

A mourning procession was brought out on the campus led by its Pro-VC Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman. 

IU authorities, IU Teachers Association (IUTA), Bangabandhu Parishad, Shapla Forum, Zia Parishad, Officers Association, residential halls, IU BCL, IUJA, IU Press Club and various departments paid rich tribute to martyred intellectuals

Earlier, IU authorities arranged a candle light programme at the central Shaheed Minar on the campus while they observed a minute silence for the martyred intellectuals.

In Noakhali, the authorities of Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) observed the day on the campus in a befitting manner, reports our NSTU Correspondent. 

On the occasion, a mourning rally was held which started from the front of the administrative building led by NSTU VC Prof Dr. Md. Didar-ul-Alam. The rally ended with paying floral tributes at the Central Shaheed Minar of the university. Different other associations including teachers and officials, paid tributes there. 

After end of the rally, a discussion on the Martyred Intellectual Day was held in front of the administrative building where NSTU VC Prof Dr. Md. Didar-ul-Ala attended as the chief guest. NSTU treasurer Prof Dr Mohammed Faruque  Uddin, Registrar Prof Dr Abul Hossain, NSTUTA's President Prof Dr Newaz Mohammed  Bahadur and General Secretary Md Maznur Rahman were also present among others.  

In Jashore, to mark the day, a discussion and prayer ceremony was held in the central mosque of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST), reports our JUST Correspondent. 

Speaking at the discussion, Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof Dr Md. Anowar Hossain said that intellectuals are the main driving force behind the formation and progress of a nation. To make the Bengali nation completely incompetent, the Pakistani forces with the help of Al-Badr and Al-Shams brutally killed the intellectuals of this country just before the victory. The programme of Martyred Intellectuals Day started with the hoisting of the black flag in front of the administrative building at sunrise and the half hoisting of national and university flags. Members of the JUST family also wore black badges. 

In Goalganj, Martyred Intellectuals Day-2020 was celebrated with due dignity at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology, reports our Gopalganj Correspondent. 

On this occasion, a discussion meeting was held at the University academic building at 11 am, homage was paid to the Shaheed Memorial and Shaheed Minar of the University, prayers were offered in the mosque and temple. Vice-Chancellor of the University Professor Dr. AQM Mahbubb presided over the meeting.

Earlier at 10 am tributes were paid at the Shaheed Memorial at Joybangla Pond on the Upazila parishad premises and at 10.30 am at Unuversity Shaheed Minar led by the Vice-Chancellor. 

In Jhenaidah, the day was observed in the district by Awami League and others, reports our Jhenaidah Correspondent. 

On the occasion, Jhenaidah district Awami League brought out a rally in the district town. The rally s ended at Mujib where the precisionists placed floral wreaths at the mural of the Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

A brief discussion was held at the venue. Awami League’s Jhenaidah district unit general secretary and mayor of Jhenaidah municipality Saidul Karim Mintu spoke it, among others. 

In Pabna, various organisations and educational institutions remembered the martyred intellectuals with respect and love on the occasion of Martyred Intellectuals’ Day, reports our Pabna Correspondent. 

Vice Chancellor of Pabna University of Science and Technology Prof M Rostam Ali along with Treasurer Professor Md. Anwar Khasru Parvez and Additional Registrar Bijan Kumar Brahma paid homage to the memory of martyred intellectuals with wreaths at Swadhinata Chattar in the morning.

On this occasion, homage was paid at the central memorial of the liberation war 'Durjoy Pabna' at 7 am on the initiative of Pabna Press Club. At this time a minute of silence was also observed in memory of the martyrs of the great liberation war.

In Faridpur, on the occasion of the Martyred Intellectuals’ Day, district administration, police, district Awami League, Muktijoddha Sangsad and other socio-cultural organisations paid homage to the martyrs by observing silence, offering prayers and laying wreaths, reports our Faridpur Correspondent. 

First, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on LGRD Ministry laid a wreath. Later, Deputy Commissioner Atul Sarkar, Superintendent of Police Md. Alimuzzaman, Municipal Mayor Sheikh Mahtab Ali Methu and orhers laid wreaths. A virtual seminar on the importance and significance of Martyred Intellectuals' Day was held at 10 am at the initiative of district administration on Zoom app.

In Chuadanga, the Martyred Intellectual Day was observed in the district under the auspices of District Awami League, District Administra­tion, Primary Education Department (primary schools), secondary schools, colleges, Socio-organisations, report our Chuadanga Correspondent.  

The programmes include discussion, observing silence for a moment in honor of martyred intellectuals, easy competition on Bangabandhu, displaying video on Liberation War and doa mohfil.
