Mannan urges youths for nation building works

Planning Minister MA Mannan urged the youths to play a pioneering role in building a modern and prosperous country. “We are moving forward under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. I urge you (youth) to play a pioneering role in achieving her development goal,” he said. The minister made the call while addressing at a seminar on “Budget for Higher Education to Attain SDGs” at Mozaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium at Dhaka University (DU) on Saturday, reports BSS.

Centre on Budget and Policy and Reading Club jointly organized the seminar. DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the programme. Former Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Atiur Rahman and Professor Dr. M Abu Yousuf made the keynote presentations while the president of Centre on Budget and Policy Professor Dr. Kamal Uddin was in the chair. DU Earth and Environmental Sciences Faculty Dean Prof Maksud Kamal and Social Sciences Faculty Dean Sadeka Halim, among others, spoke.

“We want to make a developed, non-communal and modern Bangladesh, but at first, we have to reinforce our cultural ground to sustain our achievements” the minister said and advised the youths to play the key role in this regard. Mannan also urged the new generation to criticize the government policies, including the budget, in a peaceful way avoiding violence and terrorism.

“I hope you will be well-informed about our economic growth and state policy, I urge you to place questions on budget and other issues. We are bound to respond to your queries,” the minister added. DU VC Professor Dr. Akhtaruzzaman called upon the students to study the budget and criticize it in the right way so that the government can understand the flaws and take corrective actions. Hundreds of students, teachers, academicians, researchers and professionals took part in the seminar.
