Learn English for personal and professional improvement

Pro-Vice Chancellor of International Islamic University of Chittagong (IIUC) Prof Mohammad Ali Azadi has said that in this age of globalization, it is not possible to acquire complete knowledge without English language. Knowledge of the English language ensures professional and personal improvement. There is no substitute for learning English for higher education.

He expressed the view while addressing an orientation programme of the Masters students of the spring semester, organized by IIUC's English Language and Literature Division (ELL) at a restaurant in the port city on Sunday.

Chaired by Dr Shah Mohammed Sanaul Karim, Chairman of the Department of English Language and Literature, the programme was addressed, among others, by Prof. Dr. Kazi Deen Mohammed, Vice Chairman of the IIUC Trust, and Dr. Mohammed Riaz Mahmud, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Humanities, and Md. Yusuf Uddin Khaled Chowdhury, Coordinator and Assistant Professor of the Masters Program of the ELL Department of IIUC.  Junaidul Bari and Rezaul Karim spoke on behalf of the new students. Assistant Professor of the ELL Department Mohammad Azizul Haque conducted the programme.

Prof. Mohammad Ali Azadi said that English is the most common language for communication. Education should be arranged in such a way that the knowledge acquired is dedicated to human welfare. The importance of knowledge to make life worthwhile is immense. He mentioned that the English language needs to be seriously studied for the purpose of enlightenment. He said English is the most widely used language, the language of social media, the language of science, and the language of research.

Prof. Dr. Kazi Deen Mohammed said the university is the crop of many dreams and labor. We have set up a university that will be equally acceptable and appreciated in the education, integrity, morality of the students from the university. Will be as dignified as a citizen.

He said the country is running a race to give up honest people, to exclude ethics and morality. By working with knowledge and morals, the country will be taken forward and the implementation of the goals and objectives announced by the Prime Minister will be possible.

Dr Mohammed Riaz Mahmud said that higher education, higher degree is not possible without English. He said that the English language and literary department is also very rich like other departments of IIUC. There is a free environment for exchanging knowledge between students and teachers.
