Bangladesh defied a last over drama to win the game against Zimbabwe and moved up to the second position in Group 2, which meant, they genuinely now could think about the semifinal of the T20 World Cup.
But the victory didn't come as easier as they thought after stifling Zimbabwe throughout the middle overs thanks to fast bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman. Sean Williams indeed took the match to the last over single-handedly with his 42 ball-64.
However despite his dismissal at the penultimate over, courtesy to a direct hit by Shakib Al Hasan, Zimbabwe was in the game with 16 runs needed from the last over.
And then all that happened. In the first ball, Ryan Burl, the last recognized batter of Zimbabwe took one through leg bye. Brad Evans was caught by Afif Hossain at deep mid-wicket off the second ball off Mosaddek Hossain.
Richard Ngarava got a four through leg-bye and then hit a six off the next ball to turn the match around as Zimbabwe needed just 5 runs from 2 balls. As Zimbabwe looked favourite to win the game, the drama unfolded again with Ngarava missing as the ball outside off comes out of the crease. Nurul Hasan Sohan did the rest with the ball, breaking the stump.
Now Bangladesh are heavily favourite as Blessing Muzarabani was not a recognized batter while Burl was in non striker end.
Mujarabani wanted to hit a six in the last ball as well because he has no other way but to hit six. But he also got stumped out. The players of the two teams left the field after shaking hands as Bangladesh started celebrating.
But after a few seconds drama unfolded again. The umpire reviewed and saw that Sohan caught the ball from the front of the stumps. According to the ICC rules, the two teams have to enter the field again due to no ball.
Sohan did not have to be a villain in the end. Muzarabani could not use the free hit he got due to the no ball and Zimbabwe were held back to 147-8, conceding a 3-run defeat.
"It's weird. I never experienced such sort of thing on the field. Not only me, I don't think anyone from Bangladesh could experience such thing," Najmul Hossain Shanto, the highest scorer for Bangladesh with 55 ball-71 said after the match.
"We were bit nervous but we were confident that at the end we could win the game. Because Mosaddek was bowling really good."
Taskin who was adjudged man of the match for his excellent spell which helped him to finish with 3-19 from four overs also felt nervous during the last ball drama but was confident about the Bangladesh victory.
"We all were nervous. It was a very good match, it wasn't very easy for us. It was the first time I saw something like that (no ball)," he said.
