A three-day Lalon festival has begun commemorating the Baul Emperor Fakir Lalon Shah's on his 129th year of departure at Chheuriya Akhra of Kumarakhali Upazila of Kushtia.

The festival started from October 16, with the cooperation of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the Kushtia District Administration, organised by Lalon Academy.

Bangladesh Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif inaugurated the festival of Fakir Lalon’s death anniversary yesterday evening.

On this occasion, Lalon Mazar has been renovated. Inside the shrine, there are seating areas of the Baul Fakirs in the vicinity of Lalon Academy. Outside, there are discussion sessions and cultural events taking place in the open stage. A three-day Lalon fair is taking place on the banks of the Kaliganga River at Chheuriya in Kushtia centering the festival.

It is to be noted that on the first of Bengali month Kartik in 1297, Lalon Shah passed away. Since then, Lalon’s day of departure has been celebrated on the banks of the Kaliganga River at Chheuriya in Kumarakhali. Thousands of people attend the festival every year at this time.
