Kuwait-bound expats demand to get jabs without NID

Stranded Kuwait-bound Bangladeshi expatriates have demanded to be vaccinated without NID so that they can return to their workplaces except any hassle.

They formed a human chain in front of National Press Club on Monday and made the demand.

The Kuwait government has recently lifted travel ban for those who have been vaccinated. Kuwait has declared that expatriates who have been vaccinated with one of the vaccines approved by the government of Kuwait such as AstraZenca – Oxford, Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson, can enter the country.

Over 10,000 Kuwait-bound Bangladeshi migrants stuck in Bangladesh for the last few months.

Around 90 percent of Kuwait-bound Bangladeshi expatriates do not have a valid NID as they have stayed away from the country for a long time. As a result, they cannot get vaccinated and return to their workplaces in time.

Under these circumstances, the migrants have demanded to get vaccinated using their passport instead of NID.

The speakers at the human chain said that they don’t want any incentives.

“We just want to get vaccinated with the Kuwait government approved vaccine Pfizer that is being administered in our country, so that we can go back to our workplaces and earn our livelihoods. We have become a burden on our families. Our visas will expire in the coming months. If we don’t return to Kuwait within this period, we will be left with no other choice but to live on the streets,” one of them added.
