Kishoreganj UZ auditorium named after Syed Ashraf

The newly founder auditorium of Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila Parishad has been named after Syed Ashraful Islam, late public administration minister and former general secretary of Awami League. 

After the death of Syed Ashraful Islam, the name of the establishment was named after the leader for the first time. The auditorium has been named as ‘Syed Ashraful Islam Smriti (Memorial) Auditorium’.

The auditorium has been established in Kishoreganj Sadar upazila with the initiative of Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahdi Hasan. On the other hand, ‘Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Liberation War Affairs Corner’ was also set up in the Upazila Parishad Complex. Syed Nazrul Islam is father of Syed Ashraful Islam. 

MP from Kishoreganj-1 (Kishoreganj Sadar-Hossainpur) constituency Dr Syeda Zakia Noor Lipi, younger sister of Syed Ashraful Islam and daughter of Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam inaugurated the 'Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Liberation War Affairs Corner' and 'Syed Ashraful Islam Memorial Auditorium' on Saturday.

Later, she planted a Christmas tree in front of the upazila parishad complex. Joint General Secretary of Kishoreganj district Awami League Advocate Ashfaqul Islam Titu, vice chairman of Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila Parishad Masud Al Mamun Khan were present at the time, among others. UNO of Kishoreganj Sadar upazila Mahdi Hasan said that the newly constructed complex of Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila Parishad was built at the initiative of late Syed Ashraful Islam. 

After inauguration of the auditorium, Dr Syeda Zakia Noor Lipi and others took part in a special munajat. She recalled the role of her father Syed Nazrul Islam and brother Syed Ashraful Islam for the country. 

Dr Syeda Zakia Noor Lipi has been elected MP from Kishoreganj-1 constituency following the death of his brother Syed Ashraful Islam who was re-elected MP from the constituency in the December 30 elections. Their father Syed Nazrul Islam, the acting President of Bangladesh during the Liberation War, was among four national leaders who were killed in jail in 1975. Syed Ashraf died on January 3 before taking oath as MP.
