Khulna court gives Drug case verdict in three working days

Court has announced the verdict in a drug case in Khulna in just three working days. This is the first such incident in the country’s judicial management.

Judge Mohammad Atiqus Samad of the Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court pronounced the verdict at 10:30 am on Tuesday (October 27).

In the drug case, the accused was sentenced to one-month imprisonment for non-payment of a fine of Tk 10,000.

Earlier, after the charges were framed on October 21, the testimony of six persons was taken on October 22 and after presenting the arguments of the plaintiffs and the defendants on October 25, the date of pronouncement of the verdict was fixed today.

Advocate Sahara Irani Pia, the state’s lawyer in the case, in a response to the verdict, said that this was the first verdict in any court in the country in just three working days. It is possible to complete the trial within three working days, as proven by this verdict.

On December 13, 2019, a drug dealer named Samrat was arrested with 30 grams of cannabis and several yaba from Muktar Hossain Road of Labanchora Police Station. A case was filed under the Narcotics Act against the emperor at Labanchora police station. On October 21 this year, the police filed a charge sheet against Samrat.
