Withdrawing their fast-unto-death programme, jute mills workers will return to work today.
As the government assured them of paying the all dues within the next two weeks through pay slip as per the National Pay Scale-2015, they called off their ongoing fast-unto-death on Thursday night

Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi Thursday night sat in a meeting with the Leaders of the jute mill workers at the Jute Diversification Promotion Centre (JDPC) and assured them of paying all the dues.
The programme called off on 11 pm on Thursday as the secretary of CBA and Non-CBA Sangram Parishad Abdul Hamid Sardar announced the message that workers’ dues will be cleared within 15 days through pay slip.

At least 54 workers fell sick on the fifth day of their fast-unto-death programme. All of them were the workers of state-owned jute mills in Khulna, Jashore and Rajshahi.

The fast-unto-death programme started on December 29 pressing the mill authorities to meet their 11 demands, including implementation of the wage commission and payment of regular wages where almost 50,000 workers are engaged from Star, Platinum, Crescent, Alim, Eastern, Daulatpur and Khalishpur jute mills in Khulna and JJI and Carpeting jute mills in Jashore.
