Jute harvesting gets momentum

Harvesting of jute plants is going on in full swing across the country following adequate rainfall in recent days. The cultivators are not worried about retting of the jute plants this time as there is adequate waters in ditches and canals, even somewhere in the jute field.

They are now engaged in separating fibers from jute plants with much enthusiasm for an access to attain high prices of jute this season. A good number of newly harvesting jute have started coming to the local markets. The farmers are happy getting excellent price of jute this season.

The market is expected to be flooded with new jute within fifteen to twenty days as only 15 to 20 per cent harvest of cash crop has so far been completed. Mentionable, the government in 2011 introduced ribbon retting method in different areas of the country to ease peeling of jute fibre Ribbon retting, a method for rotting jute plants with less water, however farmers have kept opting for the traditional method of rotting jute.
