JS body for setting up paddy silos to ensure fair price

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Food Ministry on Thursday held discussions on setting up paddy silo in 200 areas across the country to ensure fair price for the agricultural produces and procure food grains from the farmers directly. The discussion was held at the third meeting of the parliamentary watchdog at the Sangsad Bhaban with its Chairman Mohemmad Nasim in the chair, said a press release, reports BSS.

Committee members Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder, Nurul Islam Nahid, Haji Md Salim, Md Atiur Rahman Atik, Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu, Ataur Rahman Khan and Anjum Sultana attended the meeting. The committee was informed that drives by mobile courts against food adulteration have been strengthened across the country.

The parliamentary body gave directives for removing corruption from local to central levels in the sector. Addressing the meeting, Nasim said there is no alternative to ensuring safe food to protect the nation from deadly diseases, including cancer. He urged the affiliated offices to the Food Ministry to work together in a coordinated way following the international and domestic laws.

He also urged the officials of the Food Ministry and concerned departments to work together to combat the country’s ongoing flood situation. Officials concerned, including the food secretary, were present at the meeting.
