JS body for creating more women entrepreneurs

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Women and Children Affairs Ministry on Sunday recommended the ministry to continue the ongoing projects, create more women entrepreneurs, prevent child marriages and take appropriate steps to address the psychosocial problems of women and children in the current situation, reports BSS.

The recommendation came from the 12th meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Women and Children Affairs Ministry, held at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) with its chairman Begum Meher Afroze in the chair, said a press release.

Committee members Md. Abdul Aziz and Begum Shabnam Jahan were present at the meeting.

A progress report on the implementation of the decisions taken at the 11th meeting was presented at the meeting and discussions were held in detail.

It was informed at the meeting that amid the coronavirus pandemic, the ministry has distributed grants of taka 55 lakh 66 thousand to 1,359 women and children in different upazilas from the distressed, poor women and child welfare fund, the release added.

Besides, instructions have been issued to the head office and field level for proper observance of hygiene rules.

It was also informed at the meeting that a toll-free helpline has been set up by linking 109 with Health Batayan 16263 to help in preventing child marriage and violence against women and to support unemployed women.

Among others, Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs Kazi Rawnak Akhter, concerned staff of the ministry and division and the secretariat of the Jatiya Sangsad were present at the meeting.
