Journalist Lablu laid to rest


Syed Akhteruzzaman Siddiqui Lablu, chief reporter of the Bangla daily Bhorer Kagoj, was laid to eternal rest at the Azimpur graveyard in the capital on Tuesday afternoon, reports BSS. 

He passed away on Monday night while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital. He was 52. He had been suffering from liver cancer for long.

Before his burial around 2:30pm, the body was taken to his workplace

Bhorer Kagoj at 11am and at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity at 12 noon. His namaz-e-janaza was also held there. The third namaz-e-janaza of the deceased was held on the premises of Jatiya Press Club after Zohr prayers. Union of Journalists (BFUJ) President Mollah Jalal and Secretary General Shaban Mahmood, Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) President Abu Zafar Surya and General Secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury, Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shyamal Dutta and Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) President Abul Khayer were present on the occasion. Earlier, the body of Lablu, who served as the president of CRAB for several times, was taken in front of CRAB office. 

CRAB President Abul Khayer, Vice-President Mizan Malik and General Secretary Dipu Sarwar and other CRAB leaders paid homage to the coffin of Lablu. Later, DRU President Elias Hossain, Joint Secretary Jamiul Ahsan Sipu and other members of the DRU executive committee, Crime Reporters Multipurpose Co-operative Society Limited, Khulna Divisional Journalists Forum, Patuakhali Journalists Forum, Dhaka, representatives of Police headquarters and RAB headquarters paid homage to Lablu.
