Job seekers in Dhaka have demanded the age of entry for jobs in government service to be raised to 32 years permanently.

The demand was made at a press conference held at Dhaka Reporters' Unity on Sunday.

Tanvir Hossain, representative of the job seekers, read out a written statement at the press conference.

He said that the world today is in a conflict against a virus that cannot be sensed. Therefore, the government has announced incentive packages in various sectors to keep the socio-economic situation stable, he added.

He said although the time limit for joining the job during the pandemic has been temporarily extended by 21 months, only a certain amount of people will get this facility and many other groups will be at a disadvantage.

The statement said that the age limit for joining the service should be permanently raised to 32 years. It claimed the rejection of the system announced by the government and called the action discriminatory.

Moniruzzaman, a student representative of the 7 colleges of DU (Dhaka University), said that the age limit for permanent employment should be 32 years in order to battle unemployment in the country. Otherwise, if the government policy remains, it will be no door to door employment but will rather increase unemployment in every house.

His fellow student, Abdullah Al Mamun, said that 2 years have been wasted in everyone's life because of the pandemic and it needs to be compensated fairly.

A few other student representatives spoke at the press conference.
