Jhenidah man to die for killing wife

A Jhenidah court on Thursday awarded death sentence to a man for killing his wife in 2003.

Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Chand Mohammad Abdul Alim AL Razi delivered the verdict in presence of the convict.

The convict is Suruj Ali, son of Barkat Ali of Raghunathpur village under Harinakundu upazila in the district.  The court, however, acquitted three other accused as they were not proved guilty.

According to the case statement, on December 29 in 2003, Suruj Ali killed his wife Champa Khatun and declared that she had committed suicide. Police sent the body to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital for post mortem. The police registered an unnatural death (UD) case at  that time.

The UD case had turned into murder case when the police received the post mortem report  in 2004 which stated that the incident was a killing after torture.

Idris Ali, a brother of deceased Champa Khatun, filed a case against four persons with Harinakundu police station on March 21 in 2004. Police investigated the matter and submitted charge sheet against Suruj Ali.
