Jashore-6 by-polls today

The by-election of Jashore-6 Keshabpur constituency will be held today (Tuesday). Voting will continue uninterruptedly from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. 

According to election rules, all kinds of campaigns ended from Sunday (July 12) midnight. 

Returning Officer and Jashore District Senior Election Officer Md. Humayun Kabir said that all preparations have been completed for proper voting in compliance with health rules.

District Election Office sources said, Jashore-6 constituency has formed a municipality and eleven unions. The total number of voters in this constituency is 2 lakh 3 thousand 18 people.

Of these, 1 lakh 2 thousand 122 are male voters and 1 lakh 896 are female voters. The number of polling stations is 79. A total of 79 presiding officers and 748 polling officers will be engaged in these polling stations. 

Sources said, Shahin Chakladar, general secretary of Jashore district Awami League is contesting the by-election with the boat symbol nominated by the Awami League. B

NP central committee member Abul Hossain Azad with the paddy sheaf symbol was  nominated by the BNP and Habibur Rahman Habib with the plough symbol was  nominated by the Jatiya Party are the contesting candidates. BNP backed candidate Abul Hossain Azad told that he submitted nomination as a BNP candidate, but his party took decision next, not to  participate in the by election.

Returning Officer and District Senior Election Officer Humayun Kabir further said that a large number of law enforcement personnel will be deployed at the polling booths to ensure a fair and peaceful election. 

The constituency will have deployed two Judicial Magistrates and 14 Executive Magistrates. Six platoons BGB will be deployed. Twenty mobile teams and 8 teams of Striking Forces will work in the election.    Each center will have 18 to 19 police and Ansar VDP members.Traffic will be closed in the constituency area on polling day. 

It may be mentioned here that after the death of Member of Parliament Jashore-6 (Keshabpur) constituency and former Minister of State for Public Administration Ismat Ara Sadeq on January 21 this year, the Election Commission announced the details of the by-election after declaring the seat vacant. March 29 election was scheduled but was postponed for March 21 due to coronavirus outbreak a week earlier.
